(NF 7744 3883) Dun Buidhe (NR) (Site of)
OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1904)
The ruins of Dun Buidhe are on an island about 95ft in diameter, defended by a stone wall (built round the margin) which by 1915, had been destroyed and the remains spread over a width of 12ft. In the NNE, a short section of the foundation of the outer face was seen. The whole of the island except the western part, was covered with a mound of fallen stones rising to about 8ft above the water level. The dun is connected to the western (eastern?) shore by a causeway 62 yards long and at least 9ft broad, submerged for the greater part of the year. RCAHMS 1928.
The remains of the dun and stone wall are so greatly mutilated that they are now only visible as an amorphous tumble of stones about 2.0 metres high covering almost the entire island. No trace of the outer wall or foundations could be seen. The causeway which connects the dun to the western shore is clearly visible at its eastern and western extremities. Visited by OS (R D) 9 May 1965.
