(NF 7655 3917) Dun Aligarry (NR)
OS 6"map, Inverness-shire, 2nd ed., (1904)
The fragmentary remains of Dun Aligarry, a possible broch lie on a flat machair about 12 yards from the southern shore of Loch Aligarry, on ground which is marshy for a large part of the year. In 1915, the stones of the dun had been removed leaving only a circular ring of large blocks, 54ft in diameter externally, embedded in the soil. The wall was probably very thick.
RCAHMS 1928.
Dun Aligarry is generally as described above. An arc of the inner face of the wall is just discernible in the west side making the wall 3.2m thick. The few large, apparently hewn stones which remain are typical of a broch. A modern shooting butt has been constructed within the feature. Re-surveyed at 1/2500.
Visited by OS (N K B) 14 May 1965.
