Full Description

NF73SE 6 Unlocated.

A Viking bone comb, Rygh type 447 now in the NMAS (No. Eq. 40) was found in clearing out a stone cist in a sandy hillock in South Uist.
Exhibited with the comb in 1872 and noted as found with it were two bronze brooches and a flint arrowhead. Grieg notes these objects as "dating from various periods. As far as can be seen only a flint arrowhead can now be identified out of the whole number." Shetelig notes the brooches as "much more recent" than the comb.
