(NF 7755 4149) Dun Mor (O.E.)

Dun Mor is an irregular, oval shaped islet lying about 45 yards from and connected by a causeway to, a small promontory on the northern shore of Loch an Duin Mhoir.
In 1915, a wall round the islet at the water's edge was a tumbled ruin of stones, spread to about 12ft in width. Only on the south side was the foundation course visible. The remains of the main building were on the south side and stood 8ft north-south and 27ft east-west, within a wall 10ft thick. A gap to the NNE probably indicates the entrance. Other foundations on the islet, rectangular and oval, are probably later than the dun.
RCAHMS 1928.

Thomas notes indications of a continuous gallery in the wall and a line of masonry from the causeway to the dun. The causeway had been "recently broken" to allow passage of boats.
F W L Tomas and T S Muir 1890.

Dun Mor, the causeway and the wall encircling the island are as described above, except that the dun is circular in plan and measures 15.0m thick and 3.0m high in places. The entrance is in the N.E. The gallery mentioned by Thomas is undoubtedly a scarcement 10.2m wide which runs around the inner face of the wall 2.3m above ground level. There is no trace of a line of masonry from the causeway to the dun. The other rectangular and oval foundations on the island can still be seen. Surveyed at 1/2500.
