Full Description

NF76NW 1 7173 6958.

Eilean Dubh, the probable site of a dun, is a hilloch situated in a marsh near Balranald steading and no doubt once included within Lock Paible. Stones are visible in the edges and top of this mound, which is about 43ft in diameter. There appears to be no associated local tradition.
E Beveridge 1911.

The most likely site for this dun is at NF 7173 6958 where there is a prominent mound (grass-covered) comforming to the description given by E Beveridge. There is no conclusive evidence of a dun, however, and the name 'Eilean Dubh' could not be confirmed locally as applying to the mound.
Visited by OS (J T T) 11 June 1965.
