Two phases of development of this site are decernable from the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Isle of Lewis, Ross-shire 1853, sheet 5).
The 1st phase is comprises a group of unroofed buildings and structures with associated enclosures, isolated buildings and enclosures and two field-systems (see NB35SE 39.01 -.02).
The second phase is the development of a linear crofting township which replaced the earlier settlement.
By the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1974) the main focus of the township has moved to the SE, with only a few buildings remaining where the linear crofting township was depicted on the 1st edition OS 6-inch map.
