Part of the lower headland suffered erosion by the sea following the failure of part of the sea wall, this occurred at some piont over the winter months 2019/20. This resulted in three insitu burials being exposed. These were reported to HES for Call Off Contract mitigation.

Call Off Contract recorded human remains and other deposits, initial findings suggest an Early Christian origin; however other deposits were identified as predating the cemetery. Post-excavation analysis will give greater clarity.

Final report indicates that burials are likely to date to the Early Medieval Period, and that these burials overlay Middle Iron Iron Age midden deposits; dated by C14 samples.
